Latex Mattresses – Talalay Latex vs Dunlop Latex – which is better?

Our Talalay Latex Mattressses use 100% natural filler-free Vita Talalay Latex certified by Oekotex 100, level 1.  Many mattress manufacturers claim that the lower cost Dunlop latex uses less energy during processing and therefore makes it better.

The additional freezing step for Talalay does indeed use more energy, however, we believe that this is more than compensated for by the superior durability of Talalay Latex Mattress. A recent test by Radium/Vita Talalay proved that even at a lower density compared to the Dunlop material in the test, Talalay shows

• 40% less height loss (sagging) and
• 50% less firmness loss (softening)

over 10 years of use compared to Dunlop.

Our 100% natural Talalay latex mattressses offer a choice of a solid or gently zoned 6” support core in different firmness options. We complete this design with a comfort layer of 2” natural Talalay latex. Together these two layers create a uniquely quiet sensation with a highly elastic surface that gently lifts and supports you.

Our latex mattresses are free from synthetics, fillers and harmful chemicals. The high quality natural latex foam provides exceptional comfort and will retain its shape and consistency over time.

The mattresses that we offer are manufactured by a small workshop in California; Berkeley Ergonomics. Natural Vita Talalay Latex is made of 100% natural latex without any artificial additives (no odorizers, zero fillers) no harmful off-gassing, zero petrochemicals or any other harmful substances.

Natural Talalay latex is more elastic, dense, resilient and durable than any polyurethane foam. It minimizes contact pressure and remains resistant to wear over time. Talalay latex is naturally resistant to dust mites, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Due to its interconnected open cell structure it is more breathable than any polyurethane foam and even Dunlop process latex. We have been using Talalay made from 100% natural latex for close to 20 years in all our mattress models and still find it to be the most functional and healthy performance material available.

Cradle to Cradle is the most comprehensive standard currently available in the industry. Other than Greenguard which only tests off-gassing or GOLS certified “organic latex” (Global Organic Latex Standard) which is very limited in its scope and doesn’t even test off-gassing of the finished product, it goes much further with independent third party product assessment & testing which covers all aspects of human and environmental health.
