Ania Stempi Designed “Live Edge” Console from Single Curly Cherry Log…

Recently, our Brooklyn workshop was commissioned to craft a console to accompany our Pugin Trestle in the dining room of a clients’ home.  Ania Stempi, of Ania Stempi Designs, styled this dining room console with her sleek base design, through dovetail joinery, and a “live edge” top panel.  This console, designed for the dining room of a New York townhouse, measures nine and a half feet.  The trestle table was a bit shorter at eight and a half feet.

The particular American Black Cherry used in this piece is from an area of the Allegheny Forest in Western Pennsylvania; source of the world’s finest cherry lumber. The cherry from this region is remarkable for its extremely “curly” figure.  The tree from which this console was crafted was 22 feet long and about 35″ in diameter.  The trunk was cut into two sections, one 12′ and the other 10′.  We made the console from the 12′ section. From the 10′ section we made a Pugin Style dining table measuring about eight and a half feet.  The dining table and the credenza thus have perfect match of color and figure as they were constructed entirely from the wood from a single tree.
