Basic Platform Bed
Our Basic Platform Bed is a simple, finely crafted solid wood bed frame.
We make our bed frames in our workshop in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We have been making bed frames for over thirty years. Over the years we have seen many ways of making a bed frame and we have some insight into the finer points of design and construction. Please read our page about construction details here.
We know that our bed frames can last for generations.
Our Basic Platform Bed is available without a headboard, or, if desired, with a variety of headboards that attach to the frame with bent oak brackets.
The Basic platform is offered in cherry, oak, walnut and maple. We often have the frame in stock in cherry and oak in queen and king sizes.
We can make any standard size in about 4 weeks. Custom sizes take a bit longer.
We use only non-toxic plant based oil finishing materials and then a bee’s wax polish. The lumber for the frames is locally sourced hardwood ; all sustainably harvested and carefully kiln dried.
Another headboard option for our Basic Platform Bed is a solid hardwood panel – here seen in cherry. The headboard is set a t a 15 degree angle using four sturdy bent oak brackets.
One of a kind wide plank headboard with live edges- each one is different – we usually have a selection of wide planks in our showroom that are perfect for a very distinctive headboard.

Our platform beds are built using a 3/8″ bolt to secure the rails to the posts. We have found no stronger method of building a bed frame.
A view under the bed – notice the center leg that supports the array of hardwood slats. The slats are connected with a specially woven webbing that prevents movement.
The bolts are hidden behind a decorative wood button.
